A friend of mine works at head Audi UK and he confirmed to be the engine does rev further to 8700 although max HP is achieved around 8250 RPM (which now matches the new Audi R8 V10 Plus)

Like I stated: You want to maximize horsepower for any given moment during acceleration!
8700 is better than 8250!
