As was mentioned, the system can be disabled via the dash switch.

However, the press release above says 'cylinder deactivation', i/o/w the engine is always running. This is not the same as those stop/starts in an economy car. This is advanced technology.
I think it comes down to this:
You either accept this, or they will legislate these cars out of existence.
