Battery Charge Error. "Battery not connected"

Going out of town for a while.

Wanted to connect the charger to the car, connecting the charger to the 12V located in the trunk and I keep getting an error: Battery not connected.

Anyone else know how to tackle this problem. Am I doing something wrong??

You cannot hook a charger to the 12V cigarette lighter socket in the trunk. The 12V lighter is not powered unless the ignition is on. Why they did this I don't know. You have to hardwire the battery terminals with the pigtail that came with your battery tender.
