R8 vs Huracan
So driven a Huracan couple months ago from one of those rental companies that let you take an exotic out for $100 / 20 minutes. Last time they had a Huracan out and it was a pretty sick car. It was easy to drive for an exotic and I felt comfortable pushing the car to it's limits within reason, while obeying speed limits. Mostly launching at traffic lights, the car feels like being shot out of a gun.
But I test drove my roommate's 2009 R8 (V8) and it wasn't like the experience of the Huracan. It looks like an exotic and most people who see it usually admire it. But when I floored it felt like it was lagging. Mainly I think it was the single clutch. When it was ready to shift, I felt I had to wait rather than it being instant. I have driven an M3 with dual clutch and when driving a single clutch, that thing takes forever to engage gear. It was hard to push the R8 and I felt kind of uncomfortable trying to because the single clutch lag was hard to anticipate. Also did not really feel as fast as it looks. But my roommate admitted his R8 isn't really fast and cars like the GTR can smoke it. It's probably fast for a normal person, but comparing to the Huracan it doesn't handle like one. It feels like a big boat sorta.
I mean he will let me drive it again eventually, but I want to be able to push the car next time and be in control, know how to drive it the way it's supposed to. I like cars but I'm not super knowledgable about it compared to guys who take their car to the tracks. I just can't get used to single clutch, it feels very strange to me like a ghost is shifting the car for me instead of me engaging the clutch & shifting.
