Thanks for your help, everyone. After finally getting my car out of winter storage, albeit only very temporarily, I noticed that the adapter for phone input is the old 30-pin connector, I believe for the iPhone 4 and older, instead of the newer Lightning connector.

What's everyone using for an adapter? I noticed a couple types - a straightforward male/female adapter:
